  • Barry Holden Memorial - Southfied School

Southfield School celebrated the public life of a true champion and gentleman, Barry Holden, this week.

Representatives of our club were privileged to be invited to attend what was a very special and moving memorial assembly.

Barry was a champion in every walk of his life - on this occasion, the emphasis was on his working life, but his considerable Sporting achievements and Pantomime productions were not forgotten.

In his memory, the school plan a whole "Year for Barry".

Barry's life mirrored the school's ideals - Be Safe - Be Fair - Be Kind - Be Proud

Which, in turn, echo the Olympic ideals - Respect, Fair Play, Friendship and Excellence, each one of these represented by a coloured ring.

Any child who does something to reflect one of these ideals will be given a certificate in reward and a chance to wear a commemorative wrist band in the appropriate colour. Any child achieving all four will be awarded the final black Champion's wristband.

The year will culminate in a 'Paralympic' Sports Day next summer.

What a wonderful way to remember a wonderful man.
