  • Following in Dr Bill’s Footsteps!

Who remembers HeartStart? A national initiative to train the nation in life saving skills.

Way back in 1996 Dr Bill McRoberts and our (Bradford West) club were very much involved in this.

This was brought to my attention by DG Robert who still has all the records from that time in his remarkable filing system. He even has one of the little HeartStart badges that members wore!

All this was way before my Rotary life began. So I am delighted to learn about it.

I do know Gary Knight who would have worked with the club then and is still resuscitation lead at Bradford Royal Infirmary. Also Tony Shenton, recently retired A&E consultant at BRI, who was involved. He and I studied together at Newcastle Medical School and randomly both ended up working in Bradford and living in Harden.

So Tony was delighted to hear that Bradford West is again taking up the challenge to work with British Heart Foundation to make us a "Nation of Lifesavers” and would like to be involved.

We are ready to start our training, beginning with a session for our own club members, family and friends on 6th September 2017.

Meet at 6pm at Bradford West Golf Club for a fun training session. It doesn’t matter how physically fit you are! Just by joining in you can learn skills you can pass on to others.

I feel very proud that our club has this opportunity to continue the work started by our own Dr Bill!
