What was going on at Hebden Hey last night? Your roving blogger and our Youth Services chairman turned up to find lots of strange characters wandering about. Pictured are just two of them, the good fairy and one of the ugly sisters. You should have seen the other one.

It was the final night of the first 2014 District 1040 RYLA course. The students had successfully (I think) completed all their tasks and received their polo shirts and it was time for the grand concert.

What a talented lot the students were. Wonderful singing, excellent dancing, one or two drag queens (the least said the better) marvellous pianists and even an archer. The mentors put on a pantomime, (oh yes they did) and the facilitator’s Kissing of the Blarney Stone sketch was hilarious as was the restaurant scene.

The students appeared to have had a marvellous and most worthwhile few days on the course and I suspect for most of them it will have been a life changing event. Our awardee, Leanne was in the team that obtained the most points and was delighted to be so.

At the end of our evening we joined in with Father Abraham which involved quite a lot of jumping up and down, so exhausted we decided that the disco would be a step too far and we went home for our cocoa. Well in my case it was wine.

Next week another course starts when our other awardee, Heather, will attend. If you can make it to the concert on Thursday night I am sure you will be made welcome and you will see at first hand what a worthwhile undertaking RYLA is and what marvellous and talented young people there are.
