Vocational Service

This area of service represents the opportunity that each Rotarian has to represent the dignity and utility of one’s vocation as an opportunity to serve society. Rotarians promote and foster high ethical standards in business and professions and promote the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations.

Rotarians as individuals involve themselves in a variety of local groups and organisations which, in the case of Bradford West includes schools (as governors or helping with reading) churches, sporting organisations, theatre groups etc where they use their skills in a variety of ways.
They also use their vocational skills in mentoring or judging for the Rotary Young Musician, Rotary Youth Leadership Award, the Rotary Young Chef competition and for the Rotary Technology Tournament

Our members have played a major part in two projects, Bradford Heartstart which one of our late members, Dr Bill McRoberts helped to found and the Bradford Schools Drugs Prevention Initiative where several of our members assess schools’ drugs prevention policies.

The Vocational Services committee organises industrial visits to such diverse places as a chemical factory, a woolen mill and a mill conversion into apartments.

It also falls upon the Vocational committee to organise the Fellowship Weekend where members partners and friends enjoy a sociable weekend away.

Our Contact the Elderly group is run through the Vocational Committee - details below.
